What's inside ?

Just for fun and this post is not miniature related.

Today I made a little mahogany box, approx. 5cm * 5cm *5cm.

Can you guess what's inside ?

Well. I made a similar one from perspex with same contents.

Yes. It is two small 3D mazes.

Here is ihe insides before assembling.

And side by side without cover plates.

Little helpers

Most of my furniture with drawers have small holes on the backside. Here I will show you why!

For opening of the drawers.

This is a chiffoniere (typical danish high chest with 7 drawers from about 1850).  The chiffoniere and similar pieces of furniture was not equipped with handles for pulling the drawers. The drawers was pulled with the locking key.

Here is selection of  "push-sticks" I have made. ( a simple toothpick can be used too :-)

From left to right. Quick and dirty one; a bead and a toothpick cut to length. Next is for the box with the three danish pieces. Then for the 1/24 and 1/48 scale high boys.

Four small brass turnings left

Finial for the 1/48 highboy.

Tomorrow the last four brass knobs will be turned.

Drawer number 5 of the small highboy flew to the floor yesterday and was then run over by my workshop chair. (top is 1,2 and 3, then down 4,5,6,7 and 8, bottom row is 9,10 and 11) So a new drawer had to be made from scatch. If you look carefully you can see that the bookmatch centerline is not perfect :-(

Another view.

And then next week-end will be the great workshop clean up day.

Happy Easter

A few days off

Spend a few days at a very interesting place: Prora at RĂ¼gen.

This is the original high-boy as illustrated in the book
And my copy in 1/24 scale.
I just need the courage to finish the last two drawers.

Happy Easter
